On my big move across the country to California, I passed through the Sonoran Desert located in Arizona. Standing tall in the heat were beautiful Saguaro cactuses found nowhere else in the world. Thousands of these beautiful plants were spread densely across the landscape and mountains. One aspect that inspired me the most was the cactuses nearing the end of their lifespan. They almost seemed to shed their outer layer of bark to reveal a wiry inside that frayed at the ends. Rings of dead bark hung along their arms like cloth and there was a beauty in how dramatic their decaying process was. I loved it.
